Sama Dance | 2007

Mysticism and Sufism infuse many of Salimeh Motamedi’s artworks, either as central themes or as underlying concepts shaping the composition. In this collection, she focuses on the Sama dance, which holds significant importance in the ceremonial traditions of certain Sufi sects and is deeply entwined with the mystical literature of Iran, particularly the poetry of Rumi, the renowned Persian poet. Salimeh captures the fluidity and rhythm of the Sama dance through the movement of her brush on the canvas, symbolizing the seekers’ spiritual ascent toward God, their ultimate destination.
